Atlantic TU

📍 West & North-West Region Est. 2022 Public Technological University

Atlantic Technological University (ATU) is a major public university covering the west and north-west of Ireland. Formed in April 2022 by the merger of Galway-Mayo IT, IT Sligo, and Letterkenny IT, it is now one of the largest multi-campus institutions in the country.

With a student body of over 20,000, ATU operates eight distinct campuses across Galway, Mayo, Sligo, and Donegal. Because it functions as a technological university, its academic model focuses heavily on applied sciences, practical vocational training, and direct industry integration.

Why students choose ATU

01

Multi-campus network

Operating across eight locations, ATU provides access to distinct academic and industry networks across four different counties, allowing students to study in either urban centers or specialized regional facilities.

02

Focus on applied sciences

As a technological university, the curriculum prioritizes hands-on technical skills and direct vocational training over pure theoretical research, ensuring graduates meet precise industry needs.

03

Extensive program variety

The recent merger of three separate institutes means ATU now offers over 600 distinct academic programs, giving standard postgraduate students access to an unusually wide variety of specialized tracks.

04

Specialized regional industries

The university maintains strong links with the region's prominent medical technology, biopharmaceutical, and marine research sectors, facilitating direct internships and applied project work.

05

Diverse student community

With an intake of over 20,000 students, the university sustains a large, active community spanning a massive geographic footprint, providing a very different experience to a centralized Dublin campus.

06

Cost of living advantages

Located across the west and north-west of Ireland, the various ATU campuses generally offer lower accommodation and daily living costs compared to studying in the immediate Dublin area.
