The University of Galway is a public research university located in Galway, Ireland. Founded in 1845 as Queen's College, Galway, it was later renamed the National University of Ireland, Galway. The University is a member of the Coimbra Group, a network of leading European research universities, and is ranked among the top 2% of universities in the world. The University has a strong tradition of research and teaching excellence and is home to a number of research centers and institutes, including the Moore Institute for Research in the Humanities and Social Studies, the Whitaker Institute for Innovation and Societal Change, and the Irish Centre for Human Rights.
